DiscoVer: Cloud House Is The Design World’s Silver Lining

A new addition to an existing dwelling located in a suburb of Melbourne has been coating our design atmosphere.

Named the Cloud House, this innovative addition and renovation to a double-fronted Edwardian house features a cloud-shaped extrusion. Designed by the firm McBride Charles Ryan, the Cloud House is composed of a simple barrel vault system with a seamless metal cap, effectively capturing southern exposure daylight while still adhering to setback regulations.

Located in Fitzroy North, a suburb of Melbourne, the Cloud House has undergone several additions and modifications for over the course of close to a century.

The latest work for the house is designed in three parts, allowing for a sequence of distinct and unexpected perspectives as you move through the home.

The street-side facade displays the Edwardian design of the early 20th century. Walk through the predominantly white interior to the first sign of the renovation: the kitchen. This red box of a kitchen is situated at the heart of the property, acting as a link between the main spaces of the home.
