V Scoop: Sneak Peak At Artfull Home Show 2102 with Phyllis Harbinger

Design Concept/Interiors’ Phyllis Harbinger, a vendor on Vedere, is a part of the Artfull Home Show, a monumental project in Cold Spring, New York, bringing artists and interior designers of the New York State, Mid-Hudson Valley Region together in collaboration to create a beautiful home. Harbinger took time to chat with Vedere about the experience.

Sponsored by Cold Spring Arts and Glassbury Court in Cold Spring, New York, ArtFull Living project show house is an attempt to help novice fine art buyers visualize art in their own homes. This event also helps designers see how to work more cohesively with artists and vice versa.

“The setting makes it less intimidating and easier to visualize how this or that piece could actually work in your own home,” says Harbinger.

Many show houses are typically a mix of traditional and contemporary rooms but at Artfull Home Show, all of the spaces are purely transitional or contemporary so there is a cohesive narrative at play, not to mention the house is chock full of very modern art.

Harbinger also shares the inspiration behind a library in the house packing a powerful punch of color. “The entire design of this room was inspired by [this coloful] chair.”

“It was the jumping off point for the concept and the color palette,” describes Harbinger.  “I loved the juxtaposition of the citron and deep royal blue and built a palette where these two hues take center stage and are supported by silvers, grays, white and black.”

And the fact that the show house is located in Cold Spring, New York and not Manhattan was also appealing to Harbinger. “The Cold Spring Arts Council truly wanted to create something for Hudson Valley residents—something that has never been done before,” states Harbinger. “I love the fact that we had to be true to the region and that is what makes it so special!”
